Jazmine Sullivan

JazmineJazmine Jazmine, who is Philadelphia native, was born and raised there. Her mother Pam was a vocalist for the backup band of Philadelphia International Records. As a child, her father was appointed as the city's Historic Strawberry Mansion curator. Her family later moved into this historic building. In 2005 she graduated from the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts with an alumna of the vocal music department. Sullivan began her singing career as a contralto children's choirand after a couple of years, she joined the adult group. He was exposed to secular music but was at first sporadic "I did solos at church and someone wanted me to go on an gospel label when I had turned eleven, however I wasn't yet ready," she recalls. "Then McDonald's offered a competition to children from major cities. Then I had the opportunity to perform The Grace God Gives me on Showtime Apollo. My fans were very enthusiastic." In the year 13 she performed along with Stevie Wonder for his grandson's birthday celebration. Sullivan aged 15 was signed for the first time to Jive Records. As a teenager the label signed her to Jive Records. She made an entire album there, but it was not released. Sullivan was eventually removed from the record label. Missy Elliott was her producer for several songs on their debut album. Of these "Backstabbers" by Timbaland the track that Elliott wrote, is a one of the highlights of their collaboration.
